The Power of the Sullivan Principles
In 1977, Dr. Sullivan authored the Sullivan Principles — the first global code of conduct for multinational corporations. His leadership fundamentally altered international trade.
Dismantling Apartheid: Over 125 major U.S. corporations (including half of the Fortune 100) adopted the Principles, using their economic leverage to force the desegregation of the South African workplace and provide equal pay for equal work.
Global Expansion: His vision scaled into the Global Sullivan Principles, now a gold standard for human rights and ethical business practices adopted by companies and governments worldwide.
Building the Commercial Bridge
Dr. Sullivan’s Africa–African American Summits created the premier platform for direct economic engagement between the U.S. and the African continent, producing tangible and transformative results.
Educational Infrastructure: Through the International Foundation for Education and Self-Help (IFESH), he oversaw the training of over 100,000 skilled workers and 100,000 farmers, providing literacy and health education to over 5 million people.
Workforce Development: His Opportunities Industrialization Centers (OIC) expanded to 18 countries, training over 2 million people in critical job skills and placing them in sustainable careers.
Diplomatic Influence: His summits convened dozens of African Heads of State and U.S. Presidents, successfully advocating for billions in debt relief for African nations and establishing permanent trade routes that remain active today.
